May Monthly Message from the FDIC
During the first week of May, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) recognizes Small Business Week. The SBA has been celebrating National Small Business Week for more than 50 years. This month the FDIC recognizes the contributions of all small business owners.
Our Money Smart for Small Business (MSSB) was developed jointly with the SBA and provides numerous topics related to starting and managing a business. It consists of 13 modules that are in both English and Spanish.
We also regularly offer MSSB Train-the-Trainers for organizations that want to teach the curriculum. Train-the-Trainers events often include:
- An overview of all modules;
- Tips to assist instructors design their programs;
- Event agenda and invitation templates;
- And much more!
You can watch for upcoming events here.
We are eager to hear about your promising approaches and successful strategies involving Money Smart. Please share your story or tips about Money Smart at moneysmartnews@fdic.gov. Join us on social media using the #FDICMoneySmart and show us any of the Money Smart products in action!

Money Smart Alliance
The FDIC recognizes organizations that contribute to the delivery of the Money Smart curriculum through the Money Smart Alliance Program. By joining the Alliance, you can benefit from Money Smart updates and other information that can strengthen your financial education efforts. Membership also includes quarterly information – sharing calls just for Alliance members. Our next call is scheduled for May 18. There is still time to join the Alliance in advance of the call.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated from May 2 to May 6 this year, and we want to thank our Money Smart teachers for the services they have delivered to their students and communities.
We are proud to offer numerous financial education resources for teachers to use in the classroom at all grade levels. Our Money Smart for Young People curriculum is a set of four grade-specific curriculums, which includes lesson plans and Parent/Caregiver Guides to help educators deliver basic financial concepts to students in Pre-K through the 12th grade.
Don’t Forget: How Money Smart Are You? Is Available Now
