June Monthly Message from the FDIC

In June, we recognize National Homeownership Month as a time to celebrate the benefits that homeownership brings to families across America. National Homeownership Week was created under President Bill Clinton’s administration in 1995 and sought to increase homeownership across the country. President George W. Bush later expanded National Homeownership Week to an entire month.

Money Smart provides many resources that can help make homeownership a reality. If you are looking for some tools to help you increase your knowledge you can check out our newest resource, How Money Smart Are You? We have a game that can help you get ready to own a home, finance the purchase, and move forward with buying a home.

If you are looking to host a workshop or class to help others prepare for homeownership, our Money Smart for Adults curriculum is the perfect place to start. Our module 13, Buying a Home, explains the buying process and mortgage loans. In addition, in our Guide to Presenting, you can find a roadmap that suggests additional modules and sections to include in your homeownership training.

We are eager to hear about your promising approaches and successful strategies involving Money Smart. Please share your story or tips about Money Smart at moneysmartnews@fdic.gov. Join us on social media using the #FDICMoneySmart and show us the Money Smart products in action!
