Open data at the FDIC reflects the agency’s commitment to transparency, public engagement, and evidence-based decision-making. FDIC provides free public access to a wide range of high-value datasets on banking, economic trends, institution performance, and regulatory activities. These datasets, such as the Summary of Deposits, Call Reports, and the Failed Bank List, are made available in machine-readable formats to support researchers, policymakers, financial institutions, and the public.
In March 2025, OMB released Memorandum M-25-05 requiring federal agencies to develop and maintain an Open Data Plan as part of their annual Information Resource Management (IRM) Strategic Plan. This plan must outline the agency’s strategic approach to expanding public access to data, identifying high-value datasets for release, and integrating open data practices into its operations.
In alignment with M-25-05, FDIC’s Open Data Plan provides a framework to manage and expand the publication of FDIC’s data assets, ensure data health, engage with stakeholders, and contribute to the government-wide Federal Data Catalog. Through this initiative, the FDIC seeks to reinforce the agency’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the ethical use of data as a public asset.
