Panelist Biography - Rob Beck
Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer of the Retail Bank and Head of Retail Distribution
U.S. Consumer Banking, Citigroup

Rob Beck is the Chief Operating Officer of the Retail Bank and Head of Retail Distribution in the U.S. In this role he is responsible for product development, pricing and fee management and overall product profitability for checking, debit, savings, and retail lending products. He also leads the Mergers and Acquisitions, Distribution Strategy, and the Business Transformation office, which is responsible for the business implementation of our new global technology platform in the US.

Prior to his current role, Rob was the Chief Financial Officer for the U.S. Consumer and Commercial Bank where he helped lead the business through a historically low-rate environment and worked with the business to identify revenue opportunities and further reengineer the expense base. Before this, he was the Head of Corporate Finance for Citigroup, managing the firm’s Capital Management and Planning activities, including the administration of asset limits and the evaluation and implementation of enhanced measures for capital ratios and returns. Rob also led Citigroup’s Treasury’s activities with respect to Fixed Income and Rating Agency Relations and Citigroup’s Treasury efforts in support of the firm’s Strategic Planning Process. His Corporate Finance role was expanded to include oversight and management of Citigroup’s Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) and led the Comprehensive Capital Adequacy Review (CCAR) and Recovery and Resolution Planning efforts for Citigroup Treasury. He was instrumental in proactively shaping Citigroup’s response to these critical regulatory requirements as Citigroup revamped its business and improved its capital ratios.

Other significant roles at Citigroup include the Head of Citigroup’s Global Productivity Improvement and Reengineering. In this role he had oversight responsibility for all of Citigroup’s global reengineering activities to help the firm drive down expenses, manage its credit costs through new loss mitigation ideas and drive margin growth thru re-pricing actions. Rob was also Co-Head of Citigroup Global Mergers & Acquisitions from March 2007 – January 2009. In this role he was responsible for managing Citigroup’s global acquisition and divestiture activities including business development activities and transaction execution, closing 19 divestitures in 2008 which raised approximately $10B of capital for the firm.

He has been with Citigroup for 25 years and has broad experience across the company both domestically and internationally. Other roles include Head of Strategy and M&A for the Global Consumer Business and member of the Global Consumer Operating Committee. He has held various finance and non-finance positions of increasing responsibility at Citi, including Product Head of International Business Banking, Chief Financial Officer/Chief Administrative Officer for Emerging Markets Corporate Banking, Head of M&A for Citigroup International and the Emerging Markets and Head of Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis for Citicorp at the time of the merger with Travelers.

Rob graduated with a Bachelor degree in Business from Washington University in 1985 and an MBA from the NYU Stern School of business in 1989. He is married and his wife and two children reside in Westport, CT.
