Vivian Hwa is a Senior Economist with the FDIC. She began her career in September of 2007 after obtaining her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. Her work includes over a decade’s experience in economic research and risk analysis, with additional experience in model development, validation, and governance including the use of machine learning both for agency use and as a part of reviewing risk management during bank exams. Her research interests include: market discipline, bank failures, depositor behavior, deposit franchise valuation, banking operations, early warning modeling, and financial innovation.
