FDIC Releases New Application Programming Interface and Modernized Version of BankFind

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) today announced the release of two bank data tools—the Application Programming Interface (API) for financial data and a modernized version of BankFind. These tools make it simpler for the public to connect with the FDIC by offering easy-to-use interfaces, interactive maps, a sleek mobile-ready experience and modern data delivery options.

The new API provides the public with over 1,100 Call Report data variables that financial institutions report quarterly. The API is available on ( ) and , and complements other APIs on insured institutions including names, locations, events and changes, and historical and failure data. Additional Call Report data will be made available in 2021.

BankFind allows the public to search for institutions insured by the FDIC and provides detailed information on their history and location of branch offices. Today’s release is part of a larger launch of FDIC’s BankFind Suite (the Suite) -- a “one-stop” digital experience for FDIC’s public data. Similar to those applications found on a smartphone, the Suite gives users access to multiple “apps,” including FDIC’s public APIs. The redesigned BankFind interface makes it easier to locate banks or branch locations by institution name, URL, FDIC certificate number, ZIP Code, city, or state.
