SUBJECT: Summary of Deposits Survey for June 30, 2000 

The annual Summary of Deposits (SOD) survey and instructions for the period ending June 30, 2000, will be mailed on July 7 to institutions with more than a main office facility. Unit banks (banks without branches) do not participate in this survey .

Financial institutions will again have the option to file their SOD survey electronically rather than return the hard-copy form. Electronic Data Systems (EDS) serves as the collection agent for the SOD survey. For your bank to file its SOD survey electronically, you must use computer software that has been certified by EDS. Certified software is available through certain vendors that have completed a certification process. Alternatively, your bank may develop its own SOD software, but you must complete the certification process.

EDS has certified for electronic submission software products marketed by DBI Financial Systems, Inc. (800-774-3279), DPSC Software, Inc. (800-825-3772), and Sheshunoff Information Services, Inc. (800-505-8333). The FDIC has provided these software companies with a significant number of the edits it uses to validate SOD survey information.

The filing deadline for submitting the hard-copy form is July 31, 2000; for electronic filing, the deadline is August 15, 2000.

If your institution established a branch or was involved in a merger or purchase/sale prior to July 1 that is not reflected on the survey form that you receive in early July, please e-mail ( or fax (202-898-3512) the FDIC the following information: institution name; certificate number; branch name; complete street address, city, state, county and zip code; and effective date of the branch establishment or change. If a branch has been acquired from or sold to another institution, please include the name, city and state of the other institution. The FDIC will ensure that the transaction is processed immediately, and we will send another SOD survey form. The software vendors will also send revised software packages to applicable institutions by July 28, if requested.

All data collected from the SOD survey are available to the public. Banks may receive published deposit information from the FDIC in booklet form. SOD survey data are also available on the FDIC's Internet site (
