Counterfeit Cashier's Checks

TO: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
SUBJECT: Counterfeit Cashier's Checks

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has learned that counterfeit cashier's checks drawn on the City Bank, 201 Merchant Street, Honolulu, Hawaii, are in circulation. Copies of two such instruments are attached for your information. Items presented to date have check numbers ranging from 198828 to 199706, and amounts ranging from $1,500 to $85,000 each.

The bank's legitimate checks have an off-white "City Bank" logo in the middle. They also have a light-blue background with the check numbers printed in red. If photocopied, the legitimate checks will reveal the word "Void." In contrast, the counterfeit checks are light brown in color with the check numbers printed in black, and they do not have the off-white "City Bank" logo in the middle. When photocopied, the counterfeit items do not reveal the word "Void."

Any information you have concerning this matter should be brought to the attention of:
