I am in favor of the new provisions proposed for privacy disclosures, although I believe that the proposed regulations are weak. The "opt out" provision is better than no consumer choice whatsoever. However, as implemented by companies, "opt out" is often a time-consuming, multi-step process. It appears that "opt out" provisions are not permanent and must be renewed. I believe that the burden should not be on the consumer to have to go through a complicated "opt out" process. Rather, the choice should be the consumer's via an "opt in" option. That said, a weak "opt out" process is better than nothing.
