I am writing in response to your request for comment "on whether the proposed e-mail notification process is necessary or desirable."
I'm not sure of the necessity of a "courtesy" e-mail. However, e-mail notification is the first thing I thought of when I began reading the proposed changes. Thus, I find the considered e-mail notification desirable and would be most appreciative of such a service.
