Guest Speaker Biographies - Peter Mosbacher

Mr. Mosbacher is a community development professional with 29 years of work experience in the areas of urban planning, affordable housing, non-profit management and banking. At Amalgamated Bank, he is responsible for developing and managing the Community Development Department to ensure CRA compliance under the service, lending and investment tests. Mr. Mosbacher is also responsible for identifying the banking and credit needs of the communities that the Bank serves, and works with senior management to identify retail branch locations as well as bank products, programs and services that respond to the needs of the Bank’s working class customers and prospects.

Since joining the Bank, Mr. Mosbacher has secured Banking Development District designation for four new retail branches located in under-served neighborhoods in Queens, Brooklyn and The Bronx. He has also initiated strategic partnerships with the New York City Housing Authority, the New York State Banking Department, the NYC and NYS Comptroller’s Offices and New York City’s Office of Financial Empowerment to launch a number of pilot programs that encourage low- income under-banked and un-banked people to access affordable banking products and services at Amalgamated Bank as an alternative to check cashing establishments.

Prior to joining Amalgamated Bank in 2006, Mr. Mosbacher was a Community Development Officer at The Bank of New York and, prior to that, at Citibank.  He began his career in the non-profit sector, serving as a project manager with Project for Public Spaces, Inc. and then as a founding board member and executive director of the New York Main Street Alliance.

Mr. Mosbacher has a B.A. in Environmental Design & Planning from the School of Architecture at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is married with two grown children and resides in Westchester County, New York.
