FDIC and CFPB Host National Webinar – Tax Time & EITC: Bankable Moments & Resources for Consumers

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) will host a national webinar to promote opportunities to encourage more U.S. households to #GetBanked during tax season and receive free tax assistance by Internal Revenue Service (IRS) -certified preparers. This event takes place on January 23rd, prior to Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Awareness Day, which increases eligibility awareness of refundable credits that many low-and moderate-income (LMI) households miss or don’t claim correctly. Speakers will share ideas for leveraging opportunities to encourage consumers to claim the EITC and other tax credits they are entitled.

The FDIC and CFPB invites financial institutions, community organizations, and government agencies to attend to learn more about bankable moments and opportunities, the importance of deposit insurance, free resources for consumers during tax-filing season (e.g., IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs), and opportunities for banks and community organizations to partner. Through these partnerships, more LMI households can receive their tax refunds for free and start a banking relationship.
