Summary: Updated information about Social Security and Veterans Benefits Administration payments for those affected by Hurricane Katrina is available on the Internet.


The U.S. Treasury Department has asked the FDIC to distribute the following information to FDIC-supervised institutions:

  • On September 6, 2005, the U.S. Postal Service issued a press release with updated information on the distribution of mail containing Social Security and other checks addressed for delivery to storm-stricken areas. The press release may be found on the Internet at
  • The Social Security Administration has posted information about the handling of Social Security checks for people affected by Hurricane Katrina at
  • Information about Veterans Benefits Administration payments, VA home loan guaranty services and other matters for veterans affected by the hurricane is available on the Internet at
