Subject: Community reinvestment act of '77
My home is in Western Massachusetts and I work in the state departmernt
of
public healrth's lead poisoning prevention program. I bear witness
everyday
to the effects and long term compromises of poverty in my target
populations. The dilapitated housing, the scourge of violence, the
physical
and mental health wasting from inadequate/improper nutrition, health
care,
and community support.
To corrupt the intentions of the CRA, to hold the poorest amongst
us hostage
for the desired profits and entitlements of the wealthiest is not
American
way. It does not build a strong nation or community endurance. It
does not
enable the weakest links to survive and live effectively, contributing
to a
collective and individual endurance that is needed to create cultural
durability.
We must build new homes. We must provide housing to families; we
must
obliterate the safe/healthy housing deficet that exists and provide
for the
dignity and humanity of our people. The response of our government
to human
need is the loudest voice in defining who we really are in spirit.
If we
deny this by diluting the CRA, we as a govenrment of the United States,
stand for little than greed and self righteousness. Be of strong
faith in
the process of building a strong country. Don't sleeze and slink
away from
what is right.
Thank you, Sandra Lawson
