February Monthly Message from the FDIC

America Saves Week is here (February 27 – March 3). Did you know that most financial experts recommend setting aside enough money to cover three to six months’ worth of expenses, in the event of a major financial surprise? According to a recent edition of the FDIC Consumer News, America Saves Week is a good time for individuals to assess their savings habits and consider new ways to save.

If you would like to learn more about improving your financial health, check out the FDIC How Money Smart Are You? site. It has a suite of 14 games and related resources with information about everyday financial topics. There is even a game that focuses just on savings! It’s based on the FDIC award-winning Money Smart program.

Upcoming Money Smart Town Hall – Black History Month

The FDIC will host a Money Smart Town Hall webinar for “Black History Month” on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM ET. This webinar will highlight a Money Smart Alliance member, who will discuss issues affecting communities of color and share promising approaches and practices serving communities of color. In addition, the webinar will highlight the FDIC #GetBanked initiative to help unbanked consumers learn more and find an account that may work for them, as well as other relevant resources that practitioners can share with clients. FDIC & CFPB Joint Event for National Consumer Protection Week

Join the FDIC and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) March 1, 2023, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM ET for a webinar on combatting elder financial exploitation in preparation for National Consumer Protection Week. Learn how to use Money Smart for Older Adults instructor-led curriculum and resources. A joint program of the FDIC & CFPB, Money Smart for Older Adults encourages advance planning and informed financial decision making while raising awareness among older adults and their caregivers on how to prevent elder financial abuse.
