Chart 46 Subprime Lending Has Exploded since 1996.

Chart 46 is a bar chart showing subprime lending from 1996 to 2004. In 1996, subprime lending was $90 billion, rising gradually to about $175 billion in 1999. In 2000 it decreased to about $140 billion, then steadily rose to about $220 billion in 2002. In 2003 subprime lending climbed to about $375 billion, and in 2004 reached $530 billion. The chart note states: “Since 1996, subprime lending has grown 489 percent from $90 billion to $530 billion.”
