On October 28, 2013, the FDIC's New York Region hosted a Regional Regulatory Teleconference. Our topic for the teleconference was “Corporate Governance: Expectations for Proactive Oversight.”

The presentation focused on what constitutes effective corporate governance and included an overview of the duties and responsibilities of management and the board of directors/trustees.

Our speakers discussed managerial and Director/Trustee oversight weaknesses cited during examinations; current standards for effective supervision; and mechanisms and strategies used to promote strong corporate governance.
