FDIC Banking Review

Figure 1 is a flowchart that shows an example of a bilateral model, where information and funds flow between a merchant and a cardholding customer when the merchant extends credit. The beginning node of the flowchart represents the cardholder. The cardholder will make purchases; the merchant will present a bill to the cardholder listing all purchases at the end of the month. The second node of the flowchart represents the merchant. After the merchant presents the cardholder with the bill, the cardholder sends payment to the merchant.
