The FDIC has three major program areas or lines of business. The Corporation's strategic goals for each of these programs are presented below.
Program area - Insurance
The strategic goal, Insured depositors are protected from loss without recourse to taxpayer funding.
Program area - Supervision
The strategic goals, FDIC-insured institutions are safe and sound. Consumers' rights are protected and FDIC-supervised institutions invest in their communities. Large and complex financial institutions are resolvable in an orderly manner under bankruptcy.
Program area - Receivership Management
The strategic goal, Resolutions are orderly and receiverships are managed effectively.
