FDIC's Chief Data Officer
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's (FDIC) Chief Data Officer (CDO) is responsible for implementing the Corporation's data strategy as required in Title II—Open, Public, Electronic, and Necessary (OPEN) Government Data Act of the Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018, enacted in January 2019.
FDIC's CDO develops and maintains a comprehensive data inventory for the organization and ensures that all relevant FDIC data are shared with the public in a timely manner. The organization will provide data and its related information in order to:
- Exercise Responsibility
- Promote Transparency
- Ensure Relevance
- Harness Existing Data
- Anticipate Future Uses
- Demonstrate Responsiveness
- Develop Data Leaders
- Practice Accountability
Data Governance
The FDIC operates governance in Executive, Collaborative, and Tactical layers.
- Executive: a function of the CIO Council, performed quarterly by data leaders from each of the business capability areas: Deposit Insurance; Supervision & Examination; Resolution & Receivership; Policy, Strategy & Control; Outreach & Communications; and Corporate Support.
- Collaborative: the purpose of the Enterprise Data Council, which meets every other week and whose members are data stewards representing major families of data: Insurance; Market & Economic; Examination & Enforcement Action; Resolution & Receiverships; Enterprise Operating Data; Public & Financial Industry Affairs; Administrative Support Service & Facility; Corporate Financial; Corporate Personnel; Corporate Training; Financial Institution; Information Resources Management; Legal; and Procurement
- Tactical: temporary cross-functional teams formed as required
The Enterprise Data Governance Framework and Enterprise Data Council Charter was signed by the CIO and CDO as of April 21, 2020.

FDIC makes data available in two forms:
- FDIC Data Tools, a list of searchable databases
- FDIC Bank Data API Developer Portal, a data service for publicly available bank data

Contact FDIC's Chief Data Officer
The Corporation's Chief Data Officer (CDO) is Geoffrey Nieboer who joined FDIC in March 2022. Before coming to FDIC, he had served as the Chief Data Officer for the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) for five years, joining the federal workforce after a distinguished military career with the US Air Force.
