    Federal legislation last year repealed a requirement that deposit brokers notify the FDIC of their deposit broker activity. The FDIC has never endorsed, registered or examined deposit brokers, who are usually individuals or nonbank agents who purchase bank certificates of deposit for consumers or other depositors for a fee. FIL-16-2001 explains this change in the law.
