FDIC Federal Register Citations From: Machida, Sandra [mailto:SMachida@csuchico.edu] Affordable housing is one of the biggest barriers for young families, especially in rural areas. Please reject the proposed changes to the Community Reinvestment Act. I worked with families in schools which are low performing. We try to interview them, but their lives are unstable with frequent moves that we can't reach them. The children's low performance in school, in part, reflects the instablity in their lives (housing and community resources and infrastructure). The CRA allows for these poor and working families to live in stable and low cost housing. Support and public support of individual, family, and community development are often limited and constrained by regulations and need to be match by funds from the private section. The private sector needs also be involved in supporting the people who live in these communities. This is not the time to eliminate regulatory incentives for private capital to leveage scare government/subsidy dollars. Poor rural families need your support. Thank you for your serious consideration of this request.
