I oppose the FDIC's proposal to allow banks with assets above $250 million to be examined as small banks under the Community Reinvestment Act. This policy would reduce lending, investments and services in low-income communities. I furthermore particularly oppose the proposal to expand the definition of community development activity to activities that benefit any individual who resides in rural areas. FDIC oversight should continue to focus on the banking industry's performance in serving low and moderate income people.
