Subject: proposed CRA revisions -- A BAD IDEA!!
I would like to register my concern about the proposed changes to
the CRA regulations. Here in Oregon, the change would leave just
four banks subject to the three-part CRA requirements through the
FDIC, and only three or four more subject to these provisions through
other regulators.
The intensely rural nature of our state and population demands
the commitment and presence of small banks, and banks need to be
held accountable to their policy holders for their investment patterns
and priorities. The CRA has been a tool for community accountability
and has served us well -- please do not remove this tool from our
state toolbox.
In urban areas of Portland, Eugene, and Salem, our banks need to
active, committed, and accountable partners as well. The CRA provisions
help keep money available in all neighborhoods.
I urge the FDIC to withdraw its proposed rule. I oppose any increase
in the threshold requirements for small banks.
Thank you -- Janet Byrd
