I was pleased to read parts of the speech Julie Williams made on January
12th, 2005 to Women in Housing and
Finance and the Excheque Club. It is obvious that things are out of
control when it comes to regulations in regards to consumer lending at
the present time. The consumer should know and understand their rights
but there needs to be an easier way to present it to the consumer and it
needs to be less time consuming for the banker. Not
only do they need to put
themselves in the position of the consumer as they are doing this
"testing", that Williams is talking about doing, but they need to also
put themselves in the place of the banker as they make and service
loans. If you stop to think about all
the regulations and policies that
a lender must run through their mind as they are trying
to take an application for
a home loan - it's unreal. I use to enjoy being a lender - not
so much anymore,
