Subject: SPAM::Community Reinvestment Act
As a nonprofit fundraiser in a rural area of the United States, I can
tell you that out-of-state ownership of banks in this country have NO
interest in investing in the quality of life in small communities.
Twenty years ago, banks were major givers to capital campaigns for
nursing homes, community centers, low-income housing, community chests
and United Way. Today, we are lucky to get a dispursement from the
measley $20,000 -- or sometimes $10,000 "allocated" to local banks for
charitable giving. Shame on the banking industry. And, since there are
no real sanctions for banks and no REAL requirement for local giving in
the Community Reinvestment regulations, the act should be STRENGTHENED,
not ravaged.
