Subject: CRA
re: Community Reinvestment Act - 12 CFR Part 345
The proposed radical increase in the number of banks exempt from full
review would jeopardize affordable housing efforts in Vermont. As a
rural state, we depend on small banks for support of housing and other
projects vital to our communities.
But the threat is not just to Vermont. It is to efforts all across
the country to save or strengthen communities.
So we want to know: What is it about the appropriate role of banks or
the needs of communities that has now changed, warranting this revision?
It understandably would please some banks. But that is not the
purpose of the CRA.
