The Bank of Inverness, Inverness, Florida, has reported to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) that counterfeit cashier's checks are in circulation. The counterfeit items are drawn upon the bank with some checks bearing the proper routing number and account number and others displaying incorrect information. The bank's routing number is 063104626. Some of the checks closely resemble official checks that were used by the bank prior to October 2003. Other checks being presented are printed on safety paper stock. The checks are reportedly mailed from outside the United States and presented for payment of merchandise sold via the Internet. The purchaser requests that any "over payment" be wired back as soon as possible. A copy of a counterfeit check received in September 2003 is attached for your review.
