SA-76-2003
November 25, 2003

TO: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (also of interest to Security Officer)
SUBJECT: Counterfeit and Stolen Official Checks
Summary: Counterfeit and missing official checks drawn on Affinity Bank, Ventura, California; Capital Bank & Trust Company, Nashville, Tennessee; and Suburban Bank & Trust Company, Elmhurst, Illinois, are in circulation.

Affinity Bank, Ventura, California, has reported to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) that counterfeit cashier's checks are in circulation. The counterfeit instruments are drawn upon the bank, but do not display the bank's proper routing number of 122042205. The authentic check has the bank's logo and telephone number in the lower left corner of the check. Authentic items also indicate two signatures are required for checks over $500. A copy of a genuine cashier's check (void) and a copy of a counterfeit check are attached for your review.

Any information you have about this matter should be brought to the attention of:

Capital Bank & Trust Company, Nashville, Tennessee, has also reported to the FDIC that counterfeit cashier's checks are in circulation. The counterfeit checks are drawn upon the bank and closely resemble an authentic check, accurately displaying the bank's logo and routing number of 064004181. However, the authentic checks have a micro-print signature line and a watermark on the back. The absence of these features will indicate a counterfeit check. A copy of a genuine cashier's check (void) and a copy of a counterfeit check are attached for your review.

However, the bank's telephone number has been removed from beneath the logo on the counterfeit items.
