Saves Week
America Saves Week aims to raise awareness of the need to save money, reduce
debt and build wealth. This is a great opportunity for families to take
action by starting a savings account and the habit of savings. For more

Taxpayers visiting Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) operated by the KC CASH coalition will receive a flyer that outlines saving tips, strategies, and encourages participation in the Saves initiative. FDIC is a co-organizer of this coalition and staff were involved in developing this flyer. |

Six Milwaukee Alliance for Economic Inclusion (AEI) member financial institutions, community organizations and VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) sites are partnering with Wisconsin Saves to encourage consumers to enroll in the savings campaign. For example, on February 26, Wisconsin Saves will present savings tips at three Milwaukee AEI partner VITA sites. FDIC staff are assisting Wisconsin Saves with recruiting additional financial institutions to participate in the enrollment drive. Wisconsin Saves is working with AEI banks and credit unions to open savings accounts during this week. |

FDIC staff will participate in the Sam Houston State University Financial Literacy Week by teaching two interactive sessions for students in Houston, Texas. |

FDIC staff will participate in the Alabama Department of Education and Distibutive Education Clubs of America state career development conference in Montgomery, Alabama to promote savings, including by hosting a Money Smart exhibit and judging student entries into the program. |
February 26, 2011 |
FDIC staff will conduct a Money Smart presentation titled, “Savings Tips and Evaluating Needs vs. Wants in Putting Together a Family Budget” for the Housing Programs & Services Department at Southern University in Shreveport, LA. |

FDIC will participate in Tennessee Saves Fair Convention Center Chattanooga, TN. Over 300 attendees are expected. |
