Don't Be an On-line Victim: How to Guard Against Internet Thieves and Electronic Scams
Identity theft continues to be one of the fastest growing crimes in the United States, and has ranked as one of the top consumer concerns for the past several years. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has produced a multimedia presentation to help consumers protect themselves from identity theft. The presentation provides information on steps consumers should take to secure their computer and protect themselves from identity theft, as well as actions consumers should take if they become a victim of identity theft.

FDIC Symposium: Building Consumer Confidence in an E-Commerce World

FDIC Symposium: Building Consumer Confidence in an E-Commerce World
October 25, 2006 – Miami, FL

These symposia, which built upon our 2005 symposia series on identity theft, facilitate a dialogue on the risks of and solutions for e-commerce and payment system fraud. These crimes can lead to a loss of confidence in online banking and retail transactions, and potentially to identity theft. Panels of experts from government, the banking industry, consumer organizations and law enforcement will discuss efforts to combat these types of fraud and educate consumers on the safe use of e-commerce, which can increase consumer confidence and reduce the risk of identity theft.
