Hispanic Outreach Financial Education Program

FDIC launched a Hispanic Outreach Financial Education Program intended to reach "unbanked" persons with little or no banking experience. Of the 40 million Hispanics residing in the U.S., almost one-half do not have a bank account, such as a savings or checking account, which is a basic starting point in financial management and wealth-building for American families.

As part of this Program, the FDIC launched a Money Smart National Hispanic Media Campaign to provide insight on financial education.

This campaign targeted Hispanic adults ages 18-49, and its objective to raise awareness of FDIC's Money Smart program, classes and products to Hispanic adults nationwide. The first step towards our goal was to inform the public via Radio and Print media. On the radio the program and the classes were announced in two, four-week intervals covering 13 markets, carried over 12,780 spots on 52 stations throughout the campaign. In the print media color advertisements were placed in regional Spanish language newspapers. Overall the campaign was a success and the results are as follows:

  • Money Smart Alliances participating in campaign: 33

  • Spanish CBI CD users who called in results: 23
