Guest Speaker Biographies - Roberta K. McInerney


Roberta K. McInerney currently serves as Deputy General Counsel (Consumer and Legislation) at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. In this capacity, Ms. McInerney oversees the drafting and development of legislation for the FDIC and legal interaction with Congress on legislation, testimony, and congressional inquiries. She is also responsible for the legal division’s consumer protection and compliance function, as well as its deposit insurance and assessments group.

Before coming to the FDIC, Ms. McInerney served for 10 years as the Assistant General Counsel Banking & Finance) at the Department of Treasury where she was the principal legal advisor to the Treasury Department on issues affecting depository and other financial institutions. During her tenure at Treasury, Ms. McInerney drafted and provided legal counsel on banking legislation and also worked with the Federal Reserve Board to develop and draft key regulations to implement new financial activities authorized by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. Ms. McInerney previously served as an attorney for the FDIC's Office of Legislative Affairs from 1989 to 1991. She also worked on Capitol Hill and in the Federal Reserve Board's Legal Division from 1982 to 1986. She is a 1981 graduate of the George Washington University Law School.
